The short version. UPI1999 splits a bill into parts and shows a UPI QR code for each one. Money moves directly between the person paying and the shop’s own bank account. We never hold it, never touch it, and never see a card number, a bank login or a UPI PIN. What we store is the bill: amounts, who is being paid, and whether the shop has marked each part as received.
Who this is about
Two kinds of people use this site. A shop signs in and creates bills. A customer opens a link to pay their share and never signs in at all. We store much less about a customer, because there is almost nothing to store.
What we store about a shop
Only what is needed to put a shop’s own details on its own bills.
- Your name, email address and profile picture, received from Google when you sign in. Nothing else from your Google account.
- Your shop name and UPI ID, which are required, and optionally a phone number, address, GST number and tax rate. These are printed on the receipts you hand to customers.
- Which collection mode you prefer, so the bill screen starts where you left it.
- Every bill you create: the total, the parts, the code, the receipt number, an optional label, and the shop name and UPI ID as they read at the moment the bill was made.
- Whether you marked each part as received, when, and the UPI reference number if you typed one in.
- A log of actions on a bill — created, QR shown, marked received, undone, cancelled — so a disputed bill can be explained.
Sign-in is handled by Google. A token from Google is stored so your session works; it cannot be used to read anything beyond your name and email, because that is the only access we ask for.
What we store about a customer paying a share
Nothing that identifies you. Opening a bill link records no account, no name and no phone number. If you tap the QR code, your UPI app opens with the shop’s details filled in, and the payment happens between your bank and theirs. We are not part of that and are not told it happened.
That is also why the shop taps Received by hand. We do not learn that your money arrived; the shop does, from their own bank alert.
What we never have
- Card numbers, CVVs, bank logins and UPI PINs. No screen on this site asks for one, and anything that does is not us.
- Access to anybody’s money. We are not a payment aggregator, payment gateway or prepaid instrument issuer, and we hold no funds at any point.
- Your contacts, photos, location or SMS messages.
Who can see a bill
A bill link contains a short code, and anybody holding that link can see that bill — the total, the parts and what is still outstanding. That is deliberate: four friends at a table need to open the same page without signing in. It also means a bill link is for the table and not for posting publicly.
Bill pages and receipts are excluded from search engines. One shop can never see another shop’s bills.
Cookies
A cookie keeps a shop signed in. It is essential — without it there is no way to know whose bills to show — and it stops working when you sign out.
We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It sets cookies to recognise a returning browser. We do not send it your bill codes. A bill page is reported to us as “/s/[code]” with the code removed, and the part of a web address after a question mark — which is where a search you typed would be — is never sent at all. You can opt out for every site with Google’s browser add-on.
We show no advertising. If that changes this page will say so before it does, and ads will still never appear on a payment page or a receipt.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Data is stored in a managed Postgres database and served from hosting providers who process it on our behalf and not for their own purposes. Bills are kept while the shop’s account exists, because a shop needs its own records for accounting and a customer may ask for a receipt months later.
Getting your data, or having it deleted
Email privacy@upi1999.com from your registered address and we will send you a copy of everything held about you, or delete your account and its bills. Deletion is permanent.
Two caveats worth stating plainly. A receipt you already handed to a customer is theirs and we cannot withdraw it. Records a tax authority requires a business to keep are the shop’s own legal obligation, so export what you need before asking us to delete.
Changes, and who to ask
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we store, the date at the top changes with it. Questions go to privacy@upi1999.com.
UPI1999 is not affiliated with NPCI. It is not a payment aggregator, payment gateway or prepaid instrument issuer, provides no credit, and charges no interest or fees.
